Who are The True Gents? Toby Jeffery and Euan Nicol - Songwriting, Guitars, Vocals
The Story of The True Gents
Euan Nicol and Toby Jeffery started writing music together circa 2006. They would meet up with acoustic guitars in the mystical woods of Invermay, Perthshire and write music long into the day. Before long they had written more than an albums-worth of songs, and teamed up with local veteran music producer Robin Wynn-Evans (Manic Street Preachers, Sam Brown, The View, Dodgy) to produce two demo CDs. The CDs were passed out to family and friends and the line-up expanded steadily, gathering local musicians including Gordon Duncan (son of legendary piper of the same name) and multi-instrumentalist Ross Ainslie (Salsa Celtica, Dougie Maclean Band, Treacherous Orchestra) and developing their own unique sound, with influences are far ranging as folk, indie, pop, sea shanties and psychadelia. 2008-2009 saw The Gents independently record and release their first full-band CD, “The True Gents EP”. The 5-track EP was recorded partly by Robin Wynn-Evans and partly self-recorded by the band in various flats and bedrooms, before being finally mixed by Jamie Maclean at Butterstone Studios, Dunkeld. The True Gents have played extensively around Scotland, alongside the likes of Shooglenifty, The Levellers, Findlay Napier and Bombskare, and have performed at venues and events such as Jura Festival, Eden Festival, Belladrum Festival Fringe, Celtic Connections, Dougie Maclean’s Perthshire Amber (with Euan and Toby also winning the songwriting competition), Perth Theatre and have headlined their own ‘Brockstock’ event at Burghead. Throughout 2010, The True Gents will be gigging constantly and completing the recording and release of their self-financed debut album. |
